Blogtober ARC Review // The Beautiful by Renée Ahdieh

In 1872, New Orleans is a city ruled by the dead. But to seventeen-year-old Celine Rousseau, New Orleans provides her a refuge after she’s forced to flee her life as a dressmaker in Paris. Taken in by the sisters of the Ursuline convent along with six other girls, Celine quickly becomes enamored with the vibrant city from the music to the food to the soirées and—especially—to the danger. She soon becomes embroiled in the city’s glitzy underworld, known as La Cour des Lions, after catching the eye of the group’s leader, the enigmatic Sébastien Saint Germain. When the body of one of the girls from the convent is found in the lair of La Cour des Lions, Celine battles her attraction to him and suspicions about Sébastien’s guilt along with the shame of her own horrible secret.

When more bodies are discovered, each crime more gruesome than the last, Celine and New Orleans become gripped by the terror of a serial killer on the loose—one Celine is sure has set her in his sights . . . and who may even be the young man who has stolen her heart. As the murders continue to go unsolved, Celine takes matters into her own hands and soon uncovers something even more shocking: an age-old feud from the darkest creatures of the underworld reveals a truth about Celine she always suspected simmered just beneath the surface.

Blogtober // Book Line Poetry

Blogtober // Book Line Poetry

Hi guys!
I’m doing a bit of a different post today – a while back I read Jemma’s blog post where she created a little song or poem using lines from a book, and I loved the idea so much that I just had to make some of my own. Sticking with the theme, of course, they’re all on the spooky or atmospheric side! Here’s how to play:

Blogtober // Favourite Villains Part II

IMG_4309.jpg

We love a good villain. A few years back when our blog had a completely different look, we picked five of our favourite villains – so for today’s Blogtober post, we thought it’d be interesting to look at some more favourite villains/anti heroes and see if there’s any we’re still rooting for after all this time!

Blogtober // Bec’s October TBR

Blogtober // Bec’s October TBR

Hi guys!

Last October we had such a great time posting all things spooky, we decided to do it again this year! I thought I’d start off with my October TBR – I’m aiming to only read seasonally appropriate books this month and they’re all ones I’ve either had on my TBR for a long time or recently come across and have been really excited about straight away.

Blogtober // Taking Part & Prompts We’re Using

Blogtober // Taking Part & Prompts We’re Using

So on a whim a few weeks ago (partly down to September putting me in a spooky mood and partly me knowing I was finishing work for maternity leave a couple of weeks into October and wanting to make sure I had a lot of blogging to do to occupy my time) I decided this year we were going to take part in Blogtober in our own way. The aim wasn’t necessarily to post every single day of the month, however with the amount of blog post ideas we’ve got lined up, we might end up doing just that! We aren’t hosting our own Blogtober theme but I thought it’d be good to share what we’ll be posting about anyway, just in case anyone was looking for inspiration. Not all of these are our original ideas but we are crediting other bloggers and other Blogtober prompt lists throughout! If you’d like to use any of our ideas, please share your posts with us and link back to us in the post 🙂
