The small Connecticut town of Sanctuary is rocked by the death of its star quarterback.
Daniel’s death looked like an accident, but everyone knows his ex-girlfriend Harper is the daughter of a witch – and she was there when he died.
Then the rumours start. When Harper insists Dan was guilty of a terrible act, the town turns on her. So was his death an accident, revenge – or something even darker?
As accusations fly and secrets are revealed, paranoia grips the town, culminating in a trial that the whole world is watching…
Thanks to Gollancz for sending me a copy of Sanctuary!
Unfortunately my copy of Sanctuary only got to me the last couple of days so I’m still in the middle of reading it. However, I’m loving what I’ve read so far! If you know me, you know I’m into all things witchy, and I absolutely love books with witches! This is unique to other witchy books I’ve read as it’s part a book about witches, but also a thriller/murder mystery all in a contemporary setting. I’ve seen it described as The Crucible meets Desperate Housewives and this is so accurate!
There are quite a few different points of view taking place but there’s a handy character guide at the front so this isn’t confusing despite the amount of characters – in fact, it actually gives a much better insight than if there had just been one or two POV characters! In a way it almost reads like a play to me, with so many characters plus a found footage feel to parts of it – some chapters are newspaper articles and police transcripts.
I’m really excited to carry on with this book – the story is so gripping and I’m struggling to put it down!
