Today we’re recommending our favourite books featuring different halloween creatures. Feel free to use the prompts we’ve used and do share your posts with us if you do, we’d love to find some new recommendations or see if anyone chose the same as us!
A book with vampires
A: I’m gonna have to pick Twilight for this purely because the books meant a lot to me when I was younger and got me into the vampire genre!
B: My most recent read featuring vampires is The Beautiful by Renée Ahdieh!
A book with werewolves
A: For this I’m going to choose Tam from the graphic novel, Mooncakes! They are the cutest little werewolf and I love them.
B: I’m going to go with a series I loved when I read it but don’t often talk about – The Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris. Obviously these are mainly known for being vampire books, but also heavily feature werewolves as well as other monsters, and definitely got me into paranormal fantasy in a big way when I read them in college.
A book with witches
A: I’m going to kind of cheat and say Hex Life by Kelley Armstrong and others purely because it’s a book filled with witchy short stories!
B: I’ve spoken about so many witchy books recently, it was hard to recommend one that I’ve not already talked about on a different blog post! I decided to go with an old favourite, The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden.
A book with fae
A: I don’t have a favourite book so I’ll just recommend some books I know include them – ACOTAR series by Sarah J. Maas, The Cruel Prince by Holly Black, An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson.
B: My favourite recent release with fae has to be The Cruel Prince by Holly Black.
A book with ghosts
A: The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson (plus go watch the show now.)
B: The Dark Vault by V. E. Schwab is probably my favourite ghostly book.
A book with sea monsters
A: Although I’m yet to read it, I’ll go for Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant.
B: To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Cristo is the first that comes to mind for me for this – full of dark, lethal sirens who hate humans.
A book with demons
A: Again, not a genre I’ve delved into but I’d say His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman.
B: I’m going to pick Spinning Silver for this one as it’s probably one we don’t immediately think of when talking about books with demons!
A book with Death
A: And in another edition of ‘Angharad surprises nobody with her answer’ I’m going for Death from The Book Thief
B: Look, I tried really hard not to say Deathless, but, my choice is Deathless. More people need to go and read Deathless.
A book with mysterious monsters
A: I’d go for the monster present in The Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand.
B: We still don’t know all that much about the monster in The Devouring Gray – maybe we’ll find out more in The Deck of Omens!
