International Women’s Day 2018 //

Today, 8th of March 2018, is International Women’s Day and as two (raging) feminists, we couldn’t let this day pass without dedicating a blog post to it. We played around with a few different ideas but finally decided on a list of recommendations for all things girl power. We hope you find something you like but more importantly, celebrate the day of the woman in whatever way you can!

How could we put together a list of recommendations without including some books? We’ve read so many amazing books with feminist themes, but these are some of our top picks.

Feminist Fiction

What’s a Girl Gotta Do? – Holly Bourne // Moxie – Jennifer Mathieu // The Handmaid’s Tale – Margaret Atwood // The Female of the Species – Mindy McGinnis // Asking For It – Louise O’Neill // The Nowhere Girls – Amy Reed // Red Clocks – Leni Zumas // Things a Bright Girl Can Do – Sally Nicholls  // Hidden Figures – Margot Lee Shetterly

Feminist Non-Fiction

On the Front Line with the Women Who Fight Back – Stacey Dooley // #GIRLBOSS – Sophia Amoruso // The War on Women – Sue Lloyd-Roberts // We Should All Be Feminists – Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie //  Difficult Women – Roxane Gay // The Diary of a Young Girl – Anne Frank

Feminist Movies

We chose a selection of movies that we think have great feminist aspects for different reasons – whether the main characters are feminist icons, the women are the ones defeating the monsters and surviving until the end, the act of true love is shown through female love and friendship rather than through a man rescuing a woman, gender stereotypes are broken, or women get their much deserved revenge (and kill Nazis whilst doing it) – we’d definitely recommend checking out these films!

Mad Max: Fury Road // Ten Things I Hate About You // Maleficent // Rogue One: A Star Wars Story // Inglorious Basterds // Legally Blonde // Star Wars: The Last Jedi // Mulan // Suffragette

Feminist Songs: A Playlist

Rather than listing a bunch of songs for you to look up, we’ve decided to make a spotify playlist full of feminist, riot grrrl anthems from across the decades! We hope you enjoy it!

Bikini Kill // Dua Lipa // No Doubt // Joan Jett // Lady Gaga // Beyonce // Sia // La Roux // Amy Winehouse // P!nk // Pussy Riot

Business Ladies
We know how much work and effort goes into running your own business and that’s why we try our hardest to support fellow owners, especially the ladies doing what they can against the fight for equality. Here are a few artists who we admire hugely and think you should show your love to!

GRLCLB // Literary Emporium // Mère Soeur // A Mother Empowered // Punky Pins // Thread Famous LTD

And that’s everything! We also regularly feature some of our favourite blogs run by some amazing ladies here!
Lots of Love,
Becky & Angharad
