Book-Related Goals for the Second Half of 2017

Although I’m a person who loves lists/goals when they’re actually in front of me, I suck at putting them together. In terms of reading, I never really have solid TBRs and the only preparation I make at the start of the year is setting my Goodreads Reading Challenge. This is my second year of Goodreads and after completing my goal of 100 books last year, I’ve decided to aim for the same this year! However, here are a few things I want to achieve with my reading from July onwards.

  • Complete my reading goal of 100 books: As of right now, I am three books ahead of schedule and that’s after spending the first half of the year constantly behind and being told by Becky to ‘read short books.’ Although I’m on track, I’m not going to count my chickens before they’ve hatched.
  • Read more diversely: Although this year I have read a lot more diverse and Own Voice books, I want to keep it up and make sure they are in the majority. I follow the best people on Twitter who are always recommending must-read diverse books so I’m never stuck for something to pick up.
  • Read Classics: Yes, I’ve been saying this since about 1996 and I even own a lot of Classics but when it comes to reading them, I keep putting it off. Frankenstein is my favourite and I feel like it isn’t going to be beat? I have a beautiful edition of Pride and Prejudice so I’m hoping to read (and enjoy) that.
  • Stop buying so many bloody books: Ok, I’m not going to sit here and say that I’m not going to buy another book this year, but I do need to stop buying books for the aesthetic and now that we have our own Bookish candle business, I can’t afford to be spending money when I could be getting supplies. Easier said than done though.
  • Read more eBooks: So recently I bought a Kobo Aura after getting a lot of advice from my good friend, Ari. Not only is it light and easy to carry around, but a lot of books are WAY cheaper in eBook form so I think this will save me a bit of money. I’d also recommend looking into a eReader if you get a lot of books from Netgalley.

  • Bookstagram more: As it is, I have three Instagram accounts – my personal, one dedicated to our blog and one dedicated to our candle shop. Because of this, it’s hard to keep up with posting regularly across all of them. Taking photos of my books is one of my favourite things to do so I’m hoping to keep up with all the accounts and post content I’m proud of.
  • Blog more: Now that we have moved our blog over to WordPress, I am very hopeful that we can update a lot more! Not only do I want us to post more but also start keeping up with your book blogs (especially marginalised reviewers) and commenting and interacting! So feel free to leave a link to your blog in the comments so we can follow!
  • Remember to read for enjoyment: I think this point is so easily forgotten amongst us book bloggers. It’s so easy to only read the books we feel we need to read, or that are sent to us or recommended. Sometimes, we just need to pick up a book on a whim that we just fancy reading and that’s it. Maybe not even review it or talk about it, maybe it’s a reread. It’s ok to do this!

And that is all! I also want to say a huge thank you to the people who have supported us moving our blog and to our new followers! It means the world.

What are your reading goals for the rest of year?
Love, Angharad @

  1. I should probably join your for your goal of buying less books for the rest of the year because my shelves are basically FULL and I have no idea where to even put any new books I am getting (I’m currently waiting for the delivery man to show up with my books that I ordered on Monday) and I still have more books on my anticipated list for the rest of 2017!

i really hope you’ll be able to complete as many of your goals as possible! 🙂

  2. I like the idea of attempting to read a certain number of books a year. However, I tend to slack on such commitments sometimes. Really enjoyed your post – and good luck with your journey in completing your goals.

I also have a blog, and although it’s not specifically dedicated to book reviews, I have done a couple. Here is the link to my website:

I look forward to reading your future posts!
